Family Team Awards: Mother-Daughter, Sister-Sister, and Life Partner

Make it a family affair and create a family team! Team categories are Mother-Daughter, Sister-Sister, and Life Partner, and can include mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, nieces, cousins and life partners. Teams can have as many members as you like, but all members must register individually. You can choose only one category to compete in but may include as many immediate family members (women aged 14+) as you wish! Teams are scored by adding up the two fastest individual times (each person does the whole race).

Most Improved (not going away in 2010!)
NEW: Even though we are moving to a new course in 2010 and cannot compare an individual's time directly to their previous year's time, we believe we have a solution. Times from an athlete's most recent previous performance at the Women's Tri will be compared to the race winner's time and a percentage of the winner's time will be determined. We will do the same for 2010 and then examine the year to year percentages to compare improvements. This award is determined and announced after the race. Any athlete is eligible to win Most Improved if they have previously competed in the YWCA Women's Tri.

NEW: Awards Policy

We have a number of unique awards! In order to spread awards around to recognize the achievement of more women, we are instituting a policy to reduce "double dipping." Thus, an athlete may only receive one award. The exceptions are the Family and Most Improved awards (an athlete may have won another award but is still eligible for these awards). The order of award priority will be Overall first, Masters second, First Timer third.

Since our race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT), Age Group and Masters awards will be determined by USAT age which is your age on Dec 31 of the current year. Thus, it is possible, for example, to be 39 on race day but counted as a 40 year old if your birthday is between race day and Dec 31.

Athletes choosing to begin in the Elite Wave are not eligible for age group awards. However, they are eligible for Overall, Masters, First Timers, Family and Most Improved awards. Athletes from any swim wave are eligible to win Overall, Masters and First Timers awards.

Athlete Quote:

AWESOME!!!! I had a wonderful time at the tri. I have been competing in tri's for the past 7 years and this is among the top. It was well run, fun and CHALLENGING. I know that this type of event that takes a lot of time, energy and volunteers. I was thrilled to see that the top 3 women were in their 40's and there were women in their 60's & 70's. It is a testament that there is no age limit as to what you can do. I was also so glad to see so many different body types because not all racers are slim and trim. It was just such a good feel race I could go on and on. All in all it was a wonderful and empowering day and I commend you and everyone involved. Thanks and I hope to be there again next year.
