The Green File
We have several new initiatives underway to make the event greener this year. Using only online registration is one the things we have been doing since the race started. We'll share new tips and initiatives in the newsletter so we can all work together to make the race more eco-friendly.

Would a Health Club Membership Help Your Tri Training?
It certainly would if it were the YWCA of Minneapolis! Visit the YWCA of Minneapolis website to see our offering of fitness,
swimming, endurance sports, cycling and numerous other health and fitness programs. And know that your membership does double duty by supporting
community programs for women and youth. Never a joiners fee for registered Women's Tri participants!

Registration Now Open!
Please note: The race venue will be Lake Nokomis (not Lake Calhoun as originally planned). While many in Minneapolis were eager to see the race at Calhoun, traffic and other logistics proved too difficult. We thank the Minneapolis Park Board for looking so extensively into the option. Onward to Lake Nokomis which is a terrific venue with proven course options. We remain thrilled to bring the race home to Minneapolis. Join us on Minneapolis' beautiful lakes, parkways and river road!
When you register, you will also be able to:
- Choose to support the YWCA with a donation. Race proceeds benefit the Latino and Native American youth in the YWCA Strong Fast Fit program, which aims to curb obesity and diabetes for at-risk youth. New this year - thank someone special to you by filling in the blank: "My donation is in appreciation of __________ for his/her/their inspiration and support." We will recognize them in our race communications!
- Tell us something special about you! You might hear it at the finish line. Don't be shy!
- Sign up for our tri-inspired classes including Tri Race Skills, Swim Conditioning, Strength and Conditioning for Runners and Triathletes and the Course Preview Workshop.
- Purchase an I TRI training shirt
New Classes
For info on all our classes and other types of support available, see the Training and Support pages on the Women's Tri website.
Swim Conditioning
We are really excited about adding this class to our endurance sports/tri repertoire. It will fill a need for many budding triathletes who want and need to work on their swim. Join us to learn workout design, freestyle technique and training, the basics of the competitive strokes (breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly), flip turns, swim jargon, equipment and more.

Strength and Conditioning for Runners and Triathletes
The title says it all! Led by a YWCA trainer who is experienced working with runners and triathletes, you will learn how to both prehab and resist injuries as well as rehab typical endurance sports overuse ailments. Experience a variety of strength and conditioning methods including weights, core, balance, stretching, TRX and Pilates. Aim your performance and strength up!

New Faces
The Women's Tri Team is happy to announce the addition of two new assistant race directors eager to serve and share their expertise. Actually, their faces aren't really new. Both of them are well known at the YWCA and have taught and worked behind the scenes of the race for the past two years.
Nicole Cueno, Training Coordinator
Nicole is the Fitness Coordinator for the YWCA Uptown and Downtown sites. An elite runner (who has done a couple multisport events, also at the elite level), Nicole was the race Run Coordinator in 2009 and has also given Course Talks, helped lead our tri classes and course previews. Send her training questions at ncueno@ywcampls.org.
Ann Haugejorde, Registration Coordinator
Ann is the Fitness Coordinator for the YWCA Midtown site. She has a past history in cycling (trained at the Olympic training center) and now is an accomplished runner and race director for the YWCA Indoor Triathlons. She has worked in many areas of the race including body marking, swim staging, transition area and finish line. Send her registration questions at ahaugejorde@ywcampls.org.
