I have been participating in events in this area (and around the US) for over 20 years--this is THE BEST event I have ever done--well organized, great people! Thanks so much!
I had a great time and found the training advice extremely helpful! I look and feel stronger than I have in several years and have developed a healthy exercise habit. My family and friends are as amazed as I am that I did it - maybe they'll join me next year! (PS: Love my new training shirt - thank you!)
The volunteers were good last year, but this year they were absolutely phenomenal. Not only were they helpful and gave great course information, but they provided amazing emotional support and cheered like mad for the athletes. I said "thank you" to as many of them as I could along the course, but I wish I could have said it again and to ALL of them. They were wonderful.
The coolest thing I have ever done! Great support, super organized, the staff was great! It was very empowering. See you next year.
It was an outstanding experience, especially as a first time triathlete - I will do more triathlons, largely because of this first fabulous experience.
Loved the Friends & Family Finish Zone! I loved that my family could be a part of the finish, because they were a huge part of me being able to finish!
I think your greatest contribution to the triathlon was the positive vibe that you infused into the entire event. The website content, training plan, emails to the triathletes, newsletters ... everything was filled with the spirit of "you can do this". When I registered for the race (my first), I wasn't sure that I would have what it takes. But when I crossed the finish line on Sunday, there could be no doubt. Thanks to all the staff and wonderful volunteers for making this possible!

2010 Date: Sun, August 15, 2010!
Mark your calendars and watch for more info before the holidays.
We've been busy and are eager to let you know what's in store for next year.
Thank you for Voting
The YWCA Women's Tri was once again in the top five (3rd) out of 55 races for Minnesota People's Choice Race of the Year.
We will keep trying to raise the bar for you!
Survey Summary
We want you to know that we are indeed listening and aiming to keep improving the race every year!
We had a tremendous response to our survey (more than half of you - which is amazing for a survey).
The wonderful news is that the responses were overwhelmingly positive. See some of the quotes in the sidebar. Standing out above the rest were:
- Pre-race support. Especially communication for first-timers. Our classes have also gotten rave reviews.
- Swim course and noodle swimmers. Nearly 100% were very satisfied or satisfied (even though we admit we think it was a tad long this year).
- Bike, Run and Transition. Approx 90% very satisfied or satisfied. (See bike paths below)
- Volunteers. Yeah, we love em.
- Personalized results printout. Our first year trying it. Looks like a keeper!
- Would you recommend the race to a friend? Over 90% (!) of you. Bring em!
- Would you register again? Over 90% of you. We look forward to seeing you in 2010!
- Was women-only important? Again, over 90%. The supportive, fun vibe and camaraderie in the face of personal challenge (whatever your level) makes this event enjoyable for everyone involved!
We saw three main areas where we can improve.
- Body Marking Process. Yes, this year we got backed up. It was compounded by several factors including the rain just at the beginning of check in (which made many of you wait a bit and then all come at once), timing chips that weren't prepared, and only one line (partly because of the chips). We'll have the chips ready and more than one line next year! Some of you wonder why we require getting the chips before entering transition. Experience tells us that many people would forget to get their chip (remember we have 50% first-timers). But we'll keep examining the options.
- The Bike Paths and T2. Using the bike paths was never in our plans. Based on traffic flow reasons, Baker Park has required us to use the paths. Every race has things to work around and this is ours. The T2 (bike to run) transition is so long also because of the venue. It is important to enter the TA from the back to maintain the proper flow in and out as well as to ensure fairness (everyone walk/runs the same distance with their bike). And there is no easy way to bike to the back side of the TA. Please know that we are always working with our host to make the safest and most fun course possible. And Baker Park has been a terrific host, always helpful and with safety in mind, and you can expect some changes next year.
- Announcing. You couldn't hear us on the beach! We are going for all out sound next year. Some of you were also offended by comments made by the announcer that were not appropriate at a women's event. We hear you and promise it will be rectified. We are the YWCA.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts and ideas with us. It will help us bring you an even greater 2010 race.

Indoor Tri Season has Begun
If you can't wait for the outdoor tri season, or want to brave the event, not the elements, try a YWCA Indoor Tri!
The YWCA Indoor Triathlons are a way to keep motivated during the winter.
Or to use as a steppingstone to your first outdoor triathlon.
And you don't have to worry about open water or messing with a bike.
They are done at the YWCA-Midtown in the pool, on our bikes and on our track.
